How Swirl Marks Come Out of Paint

Swirls are fine scratches in the clear coat. A wash will not remove them. Machine polishing can, up to the point the clear coat allows.

Most swirls come from dusty towels, automatic brushes, and washing in circles. In direct sun they look like a spiderweb. Level 1 correction targets about 20 to 25 percent of that and restores gloss on paint that is already healthy. Level 2, about 65 to 75 percent, is what most dark daily drivers need. Level 3, about 95 percent or more, is the long polish for heavier marks.

If a scratch has gone through the paint, polish will not repaint the panel. We can tell you that before you book a day, so a correction visit is not sold as a repaint.

After correction, a sealant holds the result for months. A ceramic coating is what keeps the next year of washes from putting the same marks back as fast.
